Fine Gael and Greens go missing on electricity privatisation amendment

Sinn Féin's Energy and Natural Resources spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has expressed his disappointment at the failure of Fine Gael and the Greens to back his amendment to rule out privatisation of the state's energy network. While welcoming Labour support for the Sinn Féin amendment, Deputy Ferris accused Fine Gael of regularly 'slipping out the side door' when it comes to the protection of industries or companies owned by the Irish people. Welcome for Cowen commitment on Derry- Letterkenny - Dublin Road

Ferris proposes safeguards against All Ireland electricity privatisation

The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Natural Resources, Martin Ferris TD, will today propose a series of amendments to a Bill designed to bring about the creation of an All Ireland electricity market. Among the amendments is one which proposes that, '..no further privatisation of electricity generation or supply takes place when the Single Market comes into effect.' Read full article
