Sinn Féin Dáil Leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has described Government proposals for representation in the Dáil for MPs from the Six Counties as a long delayed first step which must be built upon in the time ahead. Deputy Ó Caoláin said it was disappointing that the Government proposals fell short of what the Taoiseach and other parties in the Dáil had previously agreed. Read full article

Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson, West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff has welcomed the appointment of the Chief Executive Designate and those who will form the Board of Directors for the Middletown all-island centre of excellence Centre for Autism and said that he hoped that there will be no further delays in the delivery of the vital services envisaged when Martin McGuinness was Education Minster. Sinn Féin Social Affairs spokesperson Seán Crowe today called on the Government to support the development of an all-Ireland campaign on suicide prevention. He was speaking in support of Aware's Nationwide Depression Awareness week, and following commitments received by party President Gerry Adams MP MLA from the British government about taking an all-Ireland approach to the problem. Speaking following the publication of the new National Development Plan, Sinn Féin Dáil leader and Finance spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said that much of the plan was a repackaging of previous commitments and that it lacked the imagination and vision for the future implied in the title of the plan Transforming Ireland - A Better Quality of Life for All. Deputy Ó Caoláin welcomed the measures in respect of all Ireland economic development but said that they did not go nearly as far as Sinn Féin had hoped. Read full article

Sinn Féin Economy Spokesperson, Mitchel McLaughlin has said that the National Development Plan (2007 - 2013) published by the 26 County government today falls short of what was expected in terms of specifics and detailed commitments to the development of the all-Ireland approach, particularly in relation to investment in infrastructure. Speaking after this morning's Joint Oireachtas Education Committee where PAPA (Parents and Professionals and Autism), an autism umbrella lobby group based in the Six Counties, gave a presentation, Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Seán Crowe TD further reinforced the party's backing for all-Ireland co-operation on Autism.
