Crowe welcomes free all-Ireland travel for pensioners

Sinn Féin Social Affairs and Transport spokesperson Seán Crowe TD has
welcomed the announcement of a plan to give pensioners free travel on
public transport on an all-Ireland basis.

Speaking today Deputy Crowe said, "Free travel for pensioners on an
all-Ireland basis has been a priority issue for Sinn Féin for some time now
and, while I welcome the announcement of this plan, it is long overdue.

"The coalition's Programme for Government included a commitment to a scheme
of all-Ireland free travel for pensioners in all parts of the island of
Ireland. Sinn Féin has consistently called for the implementation of the
scheme as we feared that it would become yet another one of the
Government's empty promises. I have directly pressed Minister Brennan on
this issue at every given opportunity.

"This plan provides a fantastic opportunity for pensioners throughout
Ireland to travel the length and breadth of the country without worrying
about travel costs or the hindrance of the border. It should have been
introduced years ago and not used as a gimmick in the run in to a general
election."
